The Toxic Shock Project / Toxic Shock LLC

It is with great pleasure that we officially announce the
addition of Dee Madden to the Toxic Shock family. Many of you
know Dee as an early member of Ex-Voto or as the driving force
behind the legendary and highly influential band Penal Colony, who
beginning in the early 90’s released the seminal albums “5 Man Job”
(Cleopatra) and “Unfinished Business” (DSBP) among many others.

As his tradition, with this new project Dee has continued to think
outside the box of conventional music and partnered up with Toxic
Shock to bring you the first in a series of records under his own
name. "mimeograph.1: songs i sing to myself when i am sad" will be
release in digital only format on May 19th 2009.

This record is a departure from his past work, a stripped down,
honest and emotional collection of covers which offers up an intense
intimacy not found on many records today. Using only an upright
bass, guitar, and snare with brushes, Mimeograph has a haunting
quality which makes you feel every emotion that went into its
recording.

A companion chapbook will be released separately at the same time,
which will serve as the liner notes and provide some of Dee’s
meanderings about the songs he chose, why he chose them, and
anecdotes about them. “Fact of the matter is, no one buys CDs
anymore” Dee says, “but like most folks, I miss having something
tangible that tells me about the record. So I came up with the idea of
doing a chapbook.”

The chapbook art and layout was designed by Casey Lynn Niccoli,
the artist responsible for the cover art and photography of the
mimeograph.1 record. Casey has a rich and varied history in punk
and alternative music. The one-time wife of Perry Farrell and
founding member of Jane's Addiction (she played guitar in an early,
pre-Dave Navarro Jane's lineup), Casey was responsible for much of
Jane's Addiction's visual output in their early years. She was a
leading contributor to the artwork and image of the band. The debut
album is based on Casey's photo concept of Farrell dressed in one of
her corsets. Casey co-created with Farrell the iconic double-vision
statue of a nude woman that graces the cover of "Nothing's
Shocking". The Siamese twins are an actual plaster cast of Niccoli.
She once again teamed up with Perry Farrell in the construction of
the paper mache multimedia album cover art for "Ritual De Lo
Habitual".

Niccoli also directed many of the early Jane's Addiction videos,
including the now classic "Been Caught Stealing" video, the "Stop"
video, "Ain't no Right" and "Classic Girl" video. She also wrote and
directed the "Soul Kiss" fan's video, and is credited with writing,
directing, and starring in the infamous Jane's Addiction-produced
feature film, "Gift", with Farrell. Niccoli also directed music videos
for Rage Against the Machine, Masters Of Reality, Black Market
Flowers, Ben is Dead's RUMP and early 90's alt-rockers Gumball.
She has worked with Henry Rollins, Ice T and Body Count, Siouxie
and the Banshees, Trent Reznor, The Butthole Surfers and The
Violent Femmes.
